Anxiety Treatment FAQs
-
What is anxiety?
Anxiety is an emotional response that can involve worrying too much, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, and difficuly sleeping. It is normal to have anxiety on occasion. It can be a problem if it happens too often or when there is nothing to worry about. -
Is anxiety the same thing as stress?
They are both emotional responses but they're also slightly different. The difference is that stress is usually caused by external factors like a deadline, while anxiety is more about someone's internal response to that deadline. Stress is usually caused by a specific event and it goes away when that event is over. Anxiety can happen even when there isn't a stressful event and it can last much longer. -
How do I know if I need medication or therapy (or both)?
This can be a very complex decision and it's something that we help people with every day. We would love to be able to help you too. -
Does anxiety medication work right away?
There are a few different types of anxiety medications. Some work quickly, but only last a few hours. Other types take an average of 4 to 6 weeks to start working but can be more effective for longer term use. -
If I start anxiety medication, do I have to take it forever?
No, you don't. You will only take the medication as long as you feel you need it.
