What does "urgent care" even mean?
"Urgent care" is supposed to mean that you need to be seen quickly. Instead it has become synonymous with hurried, poor quality visits with providers who are often inexperienced and overloaded. -
Why are the providers often inexperienced?
It is a job that few experienced providers want because the goal of these corporations is to squeeze as many patients through their door, as quickly, and cheaply as possible. Support staff is almost always limited and provider burnout is high. -
Why is the care often of poor quality?
Again, their goal is to get as many people in as possible. Their providers don't typically have as much time as they need to be thorough. Follow up is severely lacking and there is little incentive to get the diagnosis right. If you go back because you haven't improved, you won't see the same provider so no one is held accountable. -
Why do they always tell me to follow up with my PCP
Because you need someone who knows your medical history and will be able to see and treat you over time if you don't get better. -
Is it easier or faster to get into an "Urgent Care" clinic when I'm sick?
No. Whether you are a new patient or an established patient, in most cases we will be able to get you in faster the urgent care clinic. There is almost no wait once you get here and we will take the time with you that is necessary to properly diagnose and treat you.
